The WELDING ROD FONWELD E138 (E309L) 4.0MM is an austenitic-ferritic stainless-steel welding electrode designed for welding applications involving high-alloy and unalloyed steels. It is particularly suitable for dissimilar-metal joints, buffer layers on stainless-steel clad materials, and surfacing applications. The electrode produces an austenitic weld deposit with approximately 15–20% ferrite and offers good mechanical strength.

The 4.0mm diameter is suited to heavier welding and fabrication applications. FONWELD E138 has a rutile coating, good welding characteristics, easy slag removal, and can be operated using DCEP or AC current. The specified welding current for the 4.0mm electrode is 120–130 amps.
